My little Saluki girl Bella finally arrived today. She ended up changing planes and ended up coming a lot later than planned which was quite stressful, but it all turned out fine in the end. It took her a little while to settle on the drive home, I was very glad when we got home. Bella is doing so well considering how strange it must be for her, she ate really well, drank quite a bit and is now snoozing on the sofa next to me. <3 Naturally, I am ecstatic, I love her already! Such a pretty girl!

Well, looks as though she's gonna get along with primates just fine! =) OMG!! *squeals* She's so adorable, I wanna squeeze her right through the screen! =X What a little sleeping beauty. I'm sure she'll be doing a lot of that. Love that collar and toy. Her face and pose remind me a lot of Ulla, and I still can't get over how well her name fits. Lovely coat! ^-^ Congrats on your new baby's arrival! I'm sure she's delighted to finally be safe and cozy in her new home, and will fit in very well. Heh, Ulla's first drive home revealed that she's prone to car sickness; glad Bella dealt so nicely with the travel.

Hehe she did try to take a few bites out of the big stuffed chimp yesterday, but she's been very good and has stuck with chewing her own toys today! Miss Bella really is such a lovely girl, she is one of the friendliest dogs I have ever met, very outgoing (not at all reserved with strangers as one might expect with a Saluki!). She seems to be settling really well so far.

Oh, good! X-) My pups learned to distinguish between my stuffy friends and theirs, although nobody's perfect, and one of Ulla's favorite victims is still my mom's giant raccoon. She takes her excess energies out on that poor guy..he's now one-eyed, and I've given up on resewing his torn arm because it just keeps coming apart again. I simply sit him so that the open spot can't be seen. >_>
Wonderful! She sounds like such a delight! Wish I could meet her. :3 Ulla can be rather exuberant with new people, too. It's hard to gauge when she's going to be in a sort of stand-offish mood, or a more hyper-friendly one. xD Guess it's just up to her. Craziest thing was when she glued herself to one of my dad's friends who visited. I've never seen her become so attached and affectionate with anyone so quickly; she was up against him on the sofa the whole time. O.o x3

That poor raccoon. Thankfully for me, so far Bella's been more interested in stealing my sister's possesions rather than mine, but she never gets away with it for very long as she always takes things into the lounge room to chew, so tends to get caught out! Your dad's friend must have felt so very privileged. Bella's pretty much always hyper-friendly with anyone who comes to the house, but much more shy when coming across people on walks.

Yeah, poor dude...LOL! That's funny. ;D At least she's trying to show you some respect by letting YOUR stuff alone. Ulla swiped some stuffies from my little brother's and parents' rooms this past week, and I had to hand-wash them with soap because mouths and plushies do not mix. >.< But she does tend to take things and then trot away with them very jauntily, like a gleeful little kid who's been given a lollipop or something, and then go to one of her favorite spots...so you always know where to find her, and possibly the missing object, if it's something she's not supposed to have!
I certainly hope he did recognize what an honor she bestowed on him...x) I know he thoroughly enjoyed meeting her. That's understandable, that she'd be more outgoing on her own turf. Ulla can be kind of stand-offish when meeting people on unfamiliar ground as well. They can tell she's nice and reasonably friendly, just not doing one of her exuberant little wiggly greetings.

Bella has now made two attempts to eat Rita, but luckily she is quick to give stolen goods back when asked. I had a bit of a heart attack moment today on our walk. We were strolling along, and Bella jumped sideways and managed to pull the leash out of my hand. I think my heart stopped for a moment as she raced down the street towards the road. Thankfully, she turned around when I called her, (in my best attempt and an incredibly cheerful and welcoming voice that I could muster considering how terrified I was). Bella was such a good girl and came running right back to me. Needless to say, my legs were a bit shaky for the rest of the walk!

Thank goodness! XD Ulla will listen to you at first, but then be back within seconds trying to have another go at whatever, or whomever, it is she thinks looks like a nice soft playmate for herself. `_` *gasp* How terrifying!! What a wonderful girl, though, knowing to return to her person...that is, of course, one of the most important things to be able to get a hound to do! I remember that one time Ulla slipped out the garage door and made it into the middle of our busy street--I think my mom's and my calling to her sounded more like horrified screeching than anything that would've been likely to attract a dog to move towards it, despite some effort to control my voice. >_< Fortunately she was already tall enough for a driver to see, and curious enough to stand there in the road staring up at his truck while we scooped her up, thanked him profusely, and waved sheepishly to the rest of the people waiting behind him.

Was scary! Luckily I didn't have the drama of her actually getting on to the road, she was surprisingly road-savvy and stopped and turned around when she got to the road. The hard part I found was stopping myself from running after her! I was very impressed when she came back, because her recall is still not 100% (I don't expect it ever to be!). Thank goodness Ulla was alright, I wonder if she realised what a panic she'd caused?!

Y'know, I think she was kind of blissfully unaware...or just didn't care because she was so confident and satisfying her own curiosity. ;D It ended well, but of course I don't want her to think that cars always stop for you. Not a good idea to try to reenact doggies-dancing-in-the-streets movie scenes in reality, I'm afraid. I should've had my Rita give her some "on-the-job-training" before that happened, as I guess maybe yours has given Bella a few pointers--very smart move on her part with the turning around! Whew! It's tough when your instinct is to chase them, but of course that just encourages them to turn it into a game and run further. >< Ulla got to know her name and learned the "come" command pretty quickly, but honestly, I kinda doubt that most dogs will ever be 100% with it, especially these independent thinkers. Sometimes I know she hears me and is aware of what I want, but figures she can get away with ignoring me for a bit and finishing doing what she wants before coming back in her own sweet time...-.- Luckily that applies to everyday situations, and in unusual ones she will typically focus on me better--I guess just because she's got less previous knowledge of what to do.

Bella's like that as well, sometimes ignoring until she can be bothered to listen to what's being asked of her. She generally comes, but in 'Saluki time', or in other words, when she feels like it! She is pretty obedient really, she is coming into the pushing-the-limits teenegery phase of life after all. (Fun!)

'Saluki time', or in other words, when she feels like it! Exactly! ;D Ha ha, now you know what it's like to be the mom of a teen... Of course, I wouldn't necessarily expect it to ever be completely over...Ullie hasn't outgrown her limit-pushing, the cheeky thing. But she is basically a good girl and knows to obey (me especially.) Then good things come! xD When she doesn't want to return to me straight away, she gives me the look that clearly says, "I know, I know, but wait! Can't you see what I'm doing?!" Pretending that her name is "Chewy" tends to work better in those situations (such as the one that occurred a few minutes ago.) -.-;

Saluki time does seem to be a lot different to our time, don't it? Lol

Saluki World is just a bit separate from ours, haha.
