..other than lure coursing, because obviously they're going to excel in that area!
I've found an obedience club 10 minutes drive from us that holds its classes in a FENCED area (!!yay!!), so next Sunday I'll be taking Bella along for a trial lesson. They also offer agility, which I'd really love to do with her, and if she gets the hang of it, maybe give it a go competitively.
I've been looking on youtube at videos of sighthounds doing agility, my word Afghans look amazing going around the course with hair flying everywhere! I imagine it must take an awful lot of patience convincing a stubborn hound to go where you need them to.

I imagine it must take an awful lot of patience convincing a stubborn hound to go where you need them to. Does it ever! ;D Yeah, I want to work seriously with our Agility set whenever this blasted, cruel heat wave ends. I'll have to lower the bars a great deal for Jack (he even has to hop up to get through our new dog door as if he's jumping through a hoop, poor little guy XD)...but I hope I can get them to realize how fun it is. Omg, a 10-minute drive!! Insane!! I would so be all over that. It's such a shame that there don't seem to be any clubs doing Obedience, Agility, or lure coursing around here, because I've let many local dog people know that I'm interested in all of it. Oh yes, Affies look glorious with all the hair streaming! Now I wanna see a Komondor or Puli or Bergamasco running a course... ;D Actually, I feel as though maybe I have seen a Komondor do it. Cray-cray!

I'll send you some of our winter weather! That's a shame that you don't have any clubs nearby, I have two about 10 minutes away which is very handy.

Wow...that's so lucky. I've never had any luck finding anything, and have no idea what's wrong with this region. D: It's hardly as if there aren't enough dogs around! The nearest Agility classes are about an hour away in light-to-medium traffic. Aargh. But thanks for the weather!! We could certainly use a cool-down right about now!

Bella was very good at her first obedience lesson, hopefully it won't take her too long to graduate from 'beginners' class. She was a bit nervous at first, she's never keen on big crowds of dogs, but by the end of her lesson she was trying to get one of the other dogs to play with her.

Huzzah! Congratulations, Bella. Sounds like fun. Ulla was the same way at handling class--wary at first of the other dogs, but soon enough loosening up, wanting to have "sniff chats," etc. xD Jack is also a bit uncomfortable with strange humans, it seems. I had two uncles and an aunt over yesterday, and he was very cautious--taking paths under furniture to avoid getting too close, even refusing a piece of meat from one of them. He likes to stand a couple feet back and stare or howl at people in his little voice until he gets used to them (as he did with the one uncle who'd been with us all weekend.)
