Starting a thread for the beautiful Scottish Deerhound! I'm going to the Royal Adelaide Show on Thursday, it's the day the Deerhounds will be shown. (sadly I couldn't get there today to see the Salukis and Afghans, though my sister did and she said there was only one Saluki.) I do love deeries, unfortunatley I've recently moved house so I can't expect to see the one that lived nearby my old home out on his walks. My friend is looking to get a Deerhound puppy at the end of the year- so exciting- so I shall be getting my Deerhound fix! lol ;D I must get my friend on here... it's rather Saluki biased at the moment... Of course, the first post of a Deerhound thread would not be complete without mention of Foxcliffe Hickory Wind who won Westminster earlier in the year.

You can't imagine how loud I screamed when Hickory won. ;D Even though she's exquisite and fully deserved the prize, I honestly was not expecting it to happen. ^____^ I'm going again to the third annual (been to all of them so far) Meet the Breeds in New York City tomorrow, so I shall once more be in the company of over 150 different dog breeds and probably 30-some-odd cats, including my beautifully beloved Deeries. <3 Wow, I wish someone in my neighborhood had one; that'd be insane. I've never even seen a Wolfhound just walking around. n_n How incredibly lucky for your friend (and you!!) That's wonderful news.

Excuse me while I die of jealousy, lucky you going to Meet the Breeds! ;D Maybe one day, they'd better keep going for many years in the future, 'cause I REALLY want to go! My friend ended up getting a Borzoi, Arya, but is still looking to get a Deerhound one day. We went to the Royal Adelaide Show on the day when the Deeries were showing (tragically I couldn't make it for the Saluki day ), and she spent hours sitting cuddling the Deeries and got taught how to stack them. The breeders were such nice people.

The event seems to get bigger and more successful (and a dollar or two more expensive, heh) every year, so I expect that you'll get a chance to attend one!
Oh, so she was the lucky new mom of Arya! How lovely. The ones who are willing to talk and share their knowledge (and their pooches) are the coolest people in the dog world. And it's hard to look at a Deerie and not want to cuddle him/her.
