... not including sighthounds!
My list of favourite breeds and breeds I'd like to own one day is very long and varied. I've been fascinated with dog breeds since I was very young. ;D As you can probably tell from my list (which I've kept very short to 10, quite an achievement!) I am a big fan of giant breeds.
Not really in any particular order: 1. Leonberger 2. Newfoundland 3. Great Dane 4. St Bernard 5. Groenendael 6. Mastiff 7. Golden Retriever 8. Flat-Coated Retriever 9. Bernese Mountain Dog 10. Bullmastiff 11. Boxer 12. Greater Swiss Mountain Dog 13. Longhaired Standard Dachshund 14. Irish Setter 15. Gordon Setter 16. English Setter 17. Dobermann 18. Alaskan Malamute 19. Finnish Lapphund 20. Samoyed

Huzzah for doggie diversity! Ooh, good thing I've already done this on another board! ^^ Here are 20+ non-sighthound favorites (but mostly just restricting myself to currently fully-recognized AKC breeds, to keep it kinda reasonable!! Without the limit, it'd be nuts.) Bedlington Terrier Poodle Irish Water Spaniel Curly-Coated Retriever Kuvasz German Wirehaired Pointer German Shorthaired Pointer (Yeah, I love the longhaired too, and a bunch of other unrecognized sporting dogs!)Irish Terrier Skye Terrier Chinese Crested Dachshund (especially longhaired & wirehaired) Pyrenean Shepherd Smooth Collie Australian Cattle Dog Kerry Blue Terrier Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier Tibetan Spaniel Manchester Terrier Fox Terriers Lhasa Apso Tibetan Terrier Dalmatian Icelandic Sheepdog Irish Wolfhound Pointer English Springer Spaniel Welsh Springer Spaniel American Water Spaniel Papillon/Phalène Portuguese Water Dog Schnauzers (all 3 ^.^) And of course, since I'm crazy about all dogs, I could just keep on going until I'd ranked hundreds of them. x3 There's quite a number of other "Honorable Mention" breeds of which I'm very fond, and which come next in the longer version of this ranking...and ones that have stood out to me at various points in time for one reason or another. Love your choices as well. The GSMD is awesome, and my dear Casey was a mix of Dane & Mastiff. I've met many of those breeds and found them to each have their own unique charms. I used to make lists of 30, 40, 50 breeds I wanted to own, minimally. ;D Dogs have always been one of my primary passions, too; I can't even count how many books I have about them.

It's so easy to have a list going on forever, isn't it? lol

Oh, no question. I could go on and on and on.
A Molosser fan! ^-^ Yay, Pitties! With some interesting others in there. I really like Danes, Dobies, Chins, & Dals...and I've known awesome Boxers, Bostons, JRTs, Rotties, & Frenchies. American Bulldogs and Bull Terriers are great-looking dogs (done some excellent film acting, too--probably for that reason, in part. They have such appealing looks!)
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier was one of my parents' considerations when I was a little kid, along with the Sheltie and Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier. We actually wound up taking in a Maltese whom someone was giving away. I recall us later inquiring about Smooth Fox Terriers and Flat-Coated Retrievers as well. Now my mom's got a friend offering her a rescue Chihuahua, but the poor thing is so sensitive as a result of her former abuse and abandonment that she probably wouldn't do very well either in our house (with two much bigger, sometimes boisterous dogs) or remaining with the friend and his Pit Bulls. =/

Poor little Chi, I hope it all works out for her and she finds an ideal home. It sounds like she DEFINITLEY deserves it.

She really does, poor little thing. I hope she gets a nice, quiet, peaceful home soon. We are seeking a toy dog, but I fear that our household might be too loud and active for her, and the other dogs' over-friendliness too difficult to escape.

yeah it sounds like that dog needs a quiet home, although some do adjust it just depends on the dog.

Yeah, that is very true…he didn’t think she’d do too well in our sort of environment, but I do hope he’s found her a good home, or will let my mom now when he does.

I hope all has worked out well for the little Chi and she has found her perfect home.
I've realised there's some breeds I've somehow not managed to fit on the list but need a special mention. Recently I have fallen in love with the Kooikerhondhe, such gorgeous dogs! I'm also very, very fond of the Australian Shepherd, Large Munsterlander, Welsh Springer Spaniel and Brittany.... and I can't believe the Rough Collie is not on my list- I ADORE them!

Me, too; I'll have to ask my mom. We actually have loads of things to talk about.
Ohhh, yes, we had discussed the lovely Kooikers--I've always strongly admired them, too, and it was awesome to finally see some in person at Meet the Breeds!! =D Excellent other Honorable Mentions, too. Welshies and Münsterländer are PERDY (I ADORE them!!! :X As well as Picardy, Blue Picardy, French, Pont-Audemer, and other similar rare spaniels); Britts are...well, I can attest to how adorably wonderful THEY are...and Collies & Shepherds rock. I'm a fan of both the smooth and rough Collies, though I've always been a bit partial to the smooths. (I've never heard of there being significant general differences in temperaments between the two, so it may have just been a funny coincidence that at our last show, we found ourselves next to a bunch of extremely hyper Rough Collies trying to bounce out of their ex-pen while barking themselves hoarse at everyone, and a few smooths who just lay themselves calmly up against the bars with a sort of "This happens all the time!" expression. It was hilarious.)

Haha, probably a coincidence but rather funny! My grandparents used to have a beautiful Rough Collie named Cindy, I wasn't around to meet her but they have a large and totally gorgeous art portrait of her that I have always admired. I love the Smooths as well, but the Rough ones look just too huggable! I think if I ever get a non-sighthound (with which to do obedience and agility, not sure I'd be comfortable doing so much off-leash work with a Saluki!) I think I'd get a RC. If I ever get a little dog it will be a Kooiker.

Lol, I imagine so. It was such a hoot, though. Oh, yes, those fluffy roughies would've been just ripe for the huggings if they'd been in a less energetic mood! ='D And if hugs wouldn't ruin the work their groomers had done, of course. Aww, Cindy must have been a beaut. I wish I had known my aunt's Afghan hounds when she had them. My dad tells me about them sometimes. Apparently one had the stereotypical 'high-strung and aloof' temperament and was a tad kooky, while the other was friendlier. I can only think of the first one's name at the moment--Mingus. I like that name, lol. I've seen one photo of him, and he was a beautiful blackie. :3 I used to try to come up with lists of all the breeds I wanted to own, but now I suspect I'll just have to take it one dog at a time and go with the one that's right at the moment I'm getting it...because my lists got a bit out of hand. I think I narrowed it to a somewhat reasonable number of ones that I'd really, really most like to have, if possible. X-] More, of course, come from the sighthound category than any other particular group! (Btw, I read that the AKC is considering dividing their 7 groups up into 11, in order to increase ring capacity, as each one grows with the newly recognized breeds each year. Sighthounds and scenthounds will be split. The plan makes good sense to me, especially when you realize that shows will just get longer and longer and longer as more and more breeds become included. The groups would get too cramped up in the rings as they are now. Before we know it they'll need three nights for Westminster instead of two, hah...) I actually didn't even realize quite how little Kooikers are until I met the one in November. They had him up on a table. =] Gosh but they're perdy. LOL, and I hope to someday have a Saluki who's more receptive to obedience and Agility training...XD Ulla gets this stubborn, defiant attitude about things that are supposed to be fun.
