Well! Hello!!! Like to introduce Aladdin and Myself to you all! Some know me from S&C I recon, but most probably don't, your the lucky ones, lol. Seriously though, I have had the opportunity to live alongside Aladdin, for about 13 months now. He was 4 months when he arrived from the breeders, and I have never looked back! That's not quite true though is it, lol. Since he has been with me, I have had to be looking, behind, to the sides, up ahead and everywhere, cause Aladdin is never in one place to long! lol. We live in a town in South Wales, UK, called Bridgend, where we are not that far from great beaches, Hills and countryside. Aladdin can be found on a beach at some weird times of the day, lol He has a brother and 3 sisters, that are Ferrets. Dixie hob and the three Jill's, lol. They all get on well and its a great spectacle when they play. Usually chase, as one or the other is always trying to nip Aladdin's feet, lol. You will find that when I post, I probably wont say I own Aladdin, or I am his Owner as such, but, that he lives with us, is part of the family etc. This is because I think of him more as part of the household than a pet! Sad I know, but we have got such a good bond since he arrived to live here. I will try and post up pics soon, but have to see for new ones, as you will probably have seen all the ones I have on S&C. If I ever get boring, tell me off! As a novice to the Saluki/Sighthound family, I like to learn from reading posts written by others who are experiencing the same problems I and Aladdin are going through, or likely to go through sometime, and see how they deal with the situation. I hope that Aladdin and I will be of help also to one or two of you if the occasion arises. I will apologies now for the spelling mistakes, as there will be a lot!! lol. Feel free to alter any of my posts if anything is out of sorts, lol. ;D Talk soon Ken and Aladdin

Hi Ken, I know you from S & C, how nice it will be to have some photos of the beautiful Aladdin around here. What breeder did you get Aladdin from? What's his registered name? It must be lovely to live in the Welsh countryside- so much space to run around in! Bella's sire is named Aladdin as well, and he is also a very nice looking Saluki: www.baghdadsalukis.com/Aladdin.htmlThat's lovely that Aladdin gets on so well with your ferrets, I'd love to see videos of them playing together. I don't like using the word 'owner' either, it sounds to much like the dog is a possesion, I imagine a proud Saluki would be terribly offended if they discovered that they are considered to be 'owned'. I prefer the term 'guardian' as it is more like a parent, as they really are special members of the family rather than something that is owned. It's really nice being able to chat to other hound owners online- makes me realise that it's not just my Saluki that can be very naughty, they all are mischief makers! Certainly there is never a dull moment with a Saluki around! Welcome to the forum!

His KC name is " Kendeci Aladdin". Bred in Barry South Wales. Seems from what I read, that Kendeci was a year name, given to dogs bred last year by breeders that didnt have their own ped breed name, or something like that. Therefore, there are loads of different breeds of dogs out there with " Kendeci" prefix. I will be looking for a bitch next year, once Christmas is all over and done with, and will call her "Jasmin" for short, what ever her KC name is, lol. Been told to go for a Baghdad lines bitch, as they got some good Coursing/Showing Pedigree's. Aladdins lines are purely coursing. Be nice to have a creme, young lady in the house as a partner for Aladdin I think. He is a re/Tri.
Been told of a few breeders around UK that have Baghdad Sals, so going to send them all emails after new year to see if I can go along and have a look at their set ups. Be nice to talk to the breeders first off!

That'd be nice if you got a Saluki from Baghdad lines, maybe even related to Bella in some way! Obviously the name Jasmin would go perfectly with Aladdin! I do like cream Salukis, they are gorgeous.
If you ended up with a bitch from good showing lines do you think you'd get into showing?

Most good breeders probably wouldn't sell a potential breeding bitch if you're not going to show her to her championship, it would show that she is a good example of the breed before breeding from her, and then there would be health checks as well. Many breeders sell their show quality dogs on a 'co-ownership' as well, which may have other requirements, but usually means that the breeder gets the dog back if you can no longer keep it, and any breeding has to be with their agreement. That was what the sitation was with Bella, if I want to breed with her (which I don't, though I would like to get into breeding one day in the distant future if I really get into showing) I need to talk with her breeder about it first. The co-ownership basically prevents the dog from being used irresponsibly by a backyard breeder and potentially the dog or its offspring winding up in the pound. I know if I was a breeder I'd be concerned as to where my puppies were going!
I'd say if you want to look to breed, go to a few dog shows and talk to breeders there, good luck with finding your perfect bitch!
Aladdin looks incredible running on that beach, you're so lucky to have such a vast space for him to run in! I must say, I've never seen a Saluki playing with a ferret before!

Always playing with them! Brothers and sisters the lot of them, lol. Aladdin has only had one nip from Dixie hob when DH came to live with us first of all! He shure let us know the fact as well, lol. Need to get some tidy vids up, but its all on a Camera phone, so never gonna be brill. All the best times that would make great vids, happen before I can get phone out of pocket, lol. Always the same aint it! Ime so close to Beaches, Dunes and countryside, so yeh! He gets a chance of a good free run, its great!
Have to try and get your readers of the forum, to come out of their shells somehow and not be shy about posting, lol. Its nice to read things on forums, but its also nice to be part of a topic as well. It will come though, and they will start contributing with any luck. Its like going into a pub for the first time, in a town you dont live, and it takes a while for some one to pick up the courage to come and say hello, lol.

Hi there, Ken! Aladdin looks and sounds like a perfectly delightful fellow...and very, very Salukish. I think I'm a little jealous of where you live, too. Aah, ferrets! How great! Besides my two dogs, I've got a couple fish who don't interest my Saluki at all, and a leopard gecko who's fascinating to her when he comes out of the tank...for a little while, anyway. He can move very quickly, but only when he wants to. (Kinda like her!) This year I had a rabbit and a mouse living with us for a little while, and those little guys were definitely fascinating to the dogs. Wouldn't have trusted them to play with them, though. The Britt has killed bunnies before--not intentionally, we believe, but like other dogs of mine, accidentally as a result of trying to pick them up. I subscribed to your channel, btw. n_n I don't think of myself as Ulla's owner, either. (She wouldn't be very pleased with me if I did.) None of my animals are my property the way an inanimate object can be--only in the legal sense, so that no one can steal my babies from me. ;3 They're sentient beings. I'm their guardian, their mom, their friend, their family member. Hehe, it's no wonder Aladdin is a favorite Saluki name; it's so fitting! If I had a bunch and one was named Aladdin, I'd call the others Jasmine, Abu, Genie, Jafar, Iago, etc. ^^ I hope you find the ideal Jasmine for your Aladdin, and have lots of fun showing and living with her! I had not heard of the "Kendeci" name; interesting tidbit. Amy's advice and info about breeders was 100% correct, from my own experience. LOL, getting them to stand still seems to be everybody's #1 Saluki photo problem! I have exactly the same issue with videos; soon as I get out my camera and start it up, the moment has passed! XD

As I said, Kendeci was a name that the Kennel club gave last year to breeders that didnt have their own. So loads of different breeds are out ther with a prefix 'Kendeci' Alfi would have been a 'Jafar' I think. Trying to get one up on Aladdin, lol. Just been down Aberavon, this evening, and it was great. Its my favourite beach ever, but gets shut off from dogs in the summer, which bugs me. But we all had a great time and the boys made new friends!
I got my daughter a Leopard gekko one year when she was younger, for christmas. We were more interested in the crickets she fed it, lol. They would escape and meet you as you were coming down the stairs, lol.

That is interesting! I'm surprised that I've never heard the name before. Lol! Yeah, I'm really liking the name Jafar for a Saluki...and it would totally suit a few of them. Aw, that's great! I always hate it when beaches don't allow dogs...typically the result of irresponsible people ruining it for everybody else. At parks and other public places in which I want to protect the admission of dogs, I always make a point of even cleaning up messes I come across that aren't from my dogs. Ha, ha! We feed our gecko canned crickets and worms and dead flies we find and such. He has had live food, but my mom definitely prefers the preserved kind! It might freak a lot of people out, but I would find it unbearably cute if a bunch of crickets came hopping down the stairs to see me. (Unless, of course, they were hopping mad that I'd been trying to feed them to a lizard, LOL!)

Lol! It was a strange sight I can tell you! lol. One got in a hole behind the bath, and it was chirping for ages, it could be heard in the kitchen, lol. Be carefull feeding them flies that you find dead mind! What have the flies been eating, and have they had fly killing pesticide sprayed on them? Cant imagine its much good for a Gecko's tummy! I do the same as you when I see dirt left in the park, lol. but only if ime in the process of picking up after one of the boys mind. Use the same doggy bag then, lol. Check out how the boys are getting on www.youtube.com/user/Rockabillygoaty?feature=mhee

Haha! You have a point about the flies…I guess I honestly couldn’t know what they’d been eating, but if we found them dead in the house, we can be pretty sure they weren’t sprayed, because one of us would do that inside. Good on ya. Always convenient when you can use the same baggie! X3 Oh, I love those videos!
