He's gorgeous! What is his colour/pattern called? He looks tri-colour, but it also looks like he's got a grizzle-mask. I LOVE the bed you made him! You wouldn't by chance be thinking of exporting any to Australia? LOL

Lol! He is registered Red/Tri. But I was worried he had a grizzle effect, as Sals are not spos to be grizzle, are they realy?

Grizzle is a very common pattern for Salukis (Bella is a red grizzle). Brindle markings are more controversial though, there's a lot of argument going on over them at the moment- but I'm pretty sure grizzle Salukis are agreed to be perfectly normal and acceptable.

What a handsome gentlehound. His color is gorgeous and somewhat unusual; I haven't seen a lot of red/tris. I personally find brindle Salukis beautiful, but it's true that there's a lot of controversy surrounding that pattern. Beautiful or not, many people believe that brindle is not an acceptable color because it indicates that the dog is no longer purebred, having ancestors that were outcrossed to another breed (such as Greyhound) at some point in time. They worry that the "brindle mutation" could have unforeseeable negative effects on the gene pool in the future. Others hold that it's a perfectly natural pattern occurring in pure Saluki lines in their countries of origin. Very difficult, tricky subject. Anyways, I'm LOVING Aladdin's daybed. Better not let my Ulla see those pics...wouldn't want her resenting my not having been quite that crafty. Still, she has nothing to complain about. She's got two cozy beds in premium locations, her pick of nearly any piece of furniture, and people who are willing to conform to her preferred resting positions...even if it means hanging off the chair, bed, sofa, etc. `___` Now I'm wondering whether Aladdin has a magic carpet and his own infinite wish-granting genie (which I'm sure would be--you) as well. Spoiling them is just too easy. You don't even realize you're doing it; it just feels like doing the right thing, lol.

I do agree that brindles are beautiful, and I will admit to being on the pro-brindle side of the fince, kind of by default as Bella is from brindle lines. I can see why it's caused such a fuss, but personally I think if there is another breed in there somewhere, it must be pretty minimal if Salukis of brindle colouring are being so successful in the show ring. That does after all, mean that they live up to the breed standard very well. According to the AKC website, the 2nd ranked Saluki in the US is a brindle girl, Bella's aunt. Probably best to avoid a brindle debate on here though, it shouldn't be a problem as we don't have many members anyway. Opinions are fine as long as everyone is respected and it is friendly, but there is a chance that things could get unpleasant.

Yeah, I'm pro-brindle myself. A lot of breeders are vehemently against it (and I've seen how nasty arguments can get over matters such as this--not a pretty picture...), but the dogs sure seem like totally valid, purebred Salukis to me, too. Some have definitely been very successful in competition, and unless the judges had some sort of agenda or an inordinate love of the pattern themselves, that does indicate that they're fine examples of what a Saluki ought to be. Wow, she's your aunt, Bel?! Sweet! Now I can say that I know the niece of the #2 Saluki in the country. Cool. x3
