Do you have favourite colours/patterns in you breed or other sighthounds?
In Salukis I've always been very partial to red grizzles (I'm not biased or anything, I'd always pictured myself with a Saluki with the colouring of 'Ivy' in 'Cats and Dogs', it's quite a coincidence that my girl turned out to be that colour!), and my other favourite colours at the moment are red, gold and black and cream. Obviously ALL Salukis are gorgeous, in any colour. ;D

I actualy went to see Aladdin, especialy as the breeder told me he had a Red available! Take a look at the latest vids on my youtube channel, and have a look to see what colour you would say Alfi is. On the adoption papers, it says Ginger! I say Red!

Well, being a redheaded mom of a red Saluki myself, I'd have to choose red as one of my definite favorites. White is another (although technically, I understand, the white ones are very, very light creams--also gorgeous faves!--who APPEAR white. True, genetic whiteness apparently only occurs on partis, and the "extreme partis" who lack the colored markings are the actual completely white dogs.) There's just something arrestingly beautiful about pure white animals, though...especially when it's the animal I consider most beautiful to begin with. I looove the partis with the light "lemon" markings. I saw one such beautiful dog at a show, and her coat looked like an English Setter's, with the belton pattern. I'm not sure how her color is officially listed (probably "parti," as there are so many variations of color/shade and pattern that can be labeled with each official Saluki color term)---but it was exotic and gorgeous. I like black, as well, in any combination. There was one small dog at the last show I entered who was just my perfect idea of the color. She was almost entirely black--a really glossy, deep, rich, jet black that looked like velvet. I'd love to name a dog like that Diesel or Shadow or something. Honestly, I love ALL possible sighthound colors and markings. Parti, grizzle, sable, and Irish marked Salukis are amazing. I've always been particularly partial to parti-colored anythings. And the amazing thing about sighthounds (and Salukis in particular as a breed) is that the group comes in such a veritable rainbow of hues and patterns! No two ever look exactly alike, and you can probably find at least a favorite or two or three amongst all of them. Very few colors and patterns are not to be found represented amongst sighthounds. I'm a brindle fan as well...and golden, cream, fawn, silver, blue, apricot, mahogany, grey...+3

At the moment one of my favourite, favourite colours/patterns in Salukis is brindle grizzle, particularly red/deer grizzle ones. Like this: (his father is Bella's grandsire on both sides) www.baghdadsalukis.com/Tyghar.htmlI love the look of brindle in Salukis, Bella's sister is like Ulla with stripes colour-wise, very striking. ;D Gosh, so many colours in Salukis that I like! ;D In the beautiful Borzoi, my favourite colour is white with very pale cream markings. Arya's mum is this colour, soooo pretty! www.alyoshaborzoi.com/Females.html

Brindle is soooo pretty!! Combining it with grizzle just doubles the loveliness! I love all of those colors and dogs. What marvelous relatives Bella has! Her sister must be amazing...*pictures Ulla with stripes* ;D Awesome. And now when I think of brindle, I always think of the animes Ginga Nagareboshi Gin and Ginga Densetsu Weed...in which they described it as "Tora ge" ("tiger-striped"), and it was believed that the brindled Akitas were the best. ^-^ Brindle is definitely one of my very favorite patterns in Borzoi, especially red brindle. That white-with-pale-cream is another--goooorgeous!! It looks like what they'd call "lemon" markings in other breeds such as Pointers, Beagles, or English Setters. And I saw a Saluki similar to that at one show...it resembled an English Setter...I fell instantly in love with the color. Also, at the last show about a week ago, a handsome tricolored Borzoi did very well. It was a somewhat unusual pattern, and my mom and I both liked it; she thought the dog looked like a Collie, which he did, even more than 'Zois generally do.

Lemon markings on a Saluki must be soooooo pretty! It has been suggested to me to watch Ginga Densetsu Weed, but it's not easy to find to watch over here, I'm very curious. Was the tri Borzoi a little like this one? www.alyoshaborzoi.com/Males.htmlVery striking!

They WERE...I haven't seen many like that, but it'd be awesome to have one someday. Very special beauties. +3 GDW totally addicted me when I watched it on YouTube...I guess five or six years ago, now. I don't know whether it's still on there, or available in Australia. I do hope you get to see it somehow, eventually, though; it really is excellent...the characters are fantastic, the story's engaging, the action is dramatic and intense, the dialog extremely well-written...and besides, there are Salukis and Borzoi among various other cool breeds. What's not to love? The "tri-Zoi" looked most like the second dog on that page (Cordova Mi Black Knight)--but basically larger and heavier-coated, & with a little more white, I think.

I'll have to try and find GDW on Youtubem I had a friend try to show it to me but it didn't work at the time. (She's a BIG fan of Akita Inu and Shiba Inu so loves the show) I'd really love to watch it, it's not very often such cool breeds are represented in television programs. There really aren't enough good animated animal shows around these days. I used to love watching The Animals of Farthing Wood, which I believe is on Youtube as well- that show had me crying so many times!
Eep- thread is getting a bit de-railed, better start a topic in the Off-topic section, lol. Back on topic, I really like black and silver Salukis, though I've never seen one in person. I'm a strange person, I've made lists of potential names for Salukis in the future, with different lists for different colours. (At the moment my lists contain a lot of German names for some reason.)

Oops...have a knack for that, don't we! If you wanted to make a separate GDW thread, that'd be fine. It is SO right up our alley, the way it uses so many different and unusual breeds. I saw some of Farthing Wood on YouTube; it was adorable. There absolutely are NOT enough good animal shows or movies anymore...someday I intend to rectify that sorry situation.
So, anyhoo. Black and silver is a gorgeous combo. Lol! You're no stranger than I...I'm constantly making lists. I've always been very interested in names and loved naming anything and everything...so I've got lists of favorites and ones I plan to use for different kinds of animals or characters or whatnot. A lot of them are based upon appearance, breed, species, and suchlike! German names? ;D Swell!! I quite enjoy a lot of those!! ^^

Recently I've developed a mega-fondness for tri-colour and black and tan Salukis with really gorgeous dark markings. I think I was won over by Bella's fellow Adelaide-Saluki, Saffie. Bella's breeder often seems to produce lots of tris, maybe I'll end up with one someday! I'm also into cream Salukis in a big way at the moment. And beautiful, rich gold ones too. So many pretty colours! ;D

Ulla's sister Latifah is a prettiful tricolor; my choice was between the two of them, actually. Color didn't reeeally come into play there--it was more the fact that Ulla had been the first Saluki puppy I'd ever held (while the rest of the litter was asleep), and that she still seemed a little more drawn to me when I visited her first home. She sat down behind and under the chair I was using and almost appeared to be claiming me in that way, saying, "Pick me, lady!" And THEN it was pointed out that we were a destined match anyway because we're both redheads. xD But indeed, all of the beautiful colors and markings...!! The rich reds and oranges and golds!! 8-D Looking at Bella's birthday photos, she reminded me of Ivy in some shots. I had imagined that if a white or cream puppy were available I would have been swayed more strongly by color, because I've always had a particular fondness for animals of those colors. Sometimes I wonder how insanely giddy I'd be if dogs came in the other colors of the rainbow...but I suppose choosing favorites is difficult enough as it is! *u* Not to mention how appealing the *names* for the colors and shades tend to be!! I've always liked creative color names and been very specific about them myself. xD Also, Harley, the Saluki from Sweden who won Reserve in the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship (which took place a couple months ago but was only televised for us all today--wth?!?), is quite the handsome black and tan. He was second only to Sky, the good-looking "ginger" Wire Fox Terrier who also won on Thanksgiving, when I'd been rooting hardest for him...this time my top two were of course the Saluki and Standard Poodle. Not that the Reserve is really publicized like the BIS, but hopefully Harley (cool name, too) will be given some mentions in the news--or already was, back when it actually happened. xD
