I've made a thread for Harry Potter as the topic doesn't really suit the Saluki thread! Oh, man…don’t even start me on DH 2…I knew what to expect, but it was absolutely brutal…and beautiful. And yeah, the ending and the music sure made your realize just how long it’s been since the beginning…the end of an era, in a way. I actually only became a fan between books four and five, during high school—but it still seems like quite a long time. Seeing the first movie for the second time (and specifically, Alan) convinced me that there had to be something to this ridiculously popular book series. Was I ever glad I gave it a chance. I tore through my brother’s copies within a few days, and then came the painful wait for Order of the Phoenix. By the time it arrived, my brother somehow didn’t even care enough anymore to finish the book (although he has kept up with the movies.) So, much like Pokemon had, the HP craze sort of became mine, lol. Anyway, everyone else wants to see Follies because they prefer musicals to plays—but Seminar should run long enough that I can use that “New York high” to justify buying more tickets when we return, and hopefully I’ll be able to see it. (Not that I WANT to kill you, of course, you see…but I mean, like…it IS Alan Rickman…!! XD) I'd read the first four books before seeing Philosopher's Stone at the movies, I was seven when I started reading them, and PS was one of the first novels I read. The wait for Order of the Phoenix was torturous, but it took me along time to read it completely. I unwisely skipped to the end to see what happened, and unfortunatley discovered that my favourite character died. It took me another six months before I was brave enough to touch the book after that! I was very lucky and got DH P2 for Christmas. It's a shame that they soon won't be selling the DVDs anymore, I still haven't got them all.

Ah, yes...quite a journey, wasn't it? Yay! But they're not going to be selling the DVDs anymore? Really? Actually, I think we only own the first three or four movies...guess it's just 'cause we've seen them all on TV enough times, and can rent them anytime via Netflix. I remember each moment and stage of Pottermania so clearly. :3 (At first it was my brother doing all the reading, and buying Harry Potter bed sheets; I remember him sitting on his bottom bunk in the trailer and asking how to pronounce Hermione's name. xD) Seeing the first movie in the theater with the family and being mildly impressed, seeing it again at a friend's sleepover and proceeding to stay up all night because I was suddenly REALLY impressed and determined to start on the books as soon as I got home...discussing the books in depth with my friends, who were delighted that I'd finally given into the well-deserved hype and gotten into it, seeing the subsequent films with them at least once apiece, keeping up with everything on Mugglenet, playing the PC games...the coolest part was buying OotP at the Barnes & Noble in the Mall of America, while on a big cross-country road trip in 2003. It was the only book I think I've ever been able to comfortably read in the car--just because of how absorbed I was, I suppose. I had finished it by the end of our stay in Wyoming. The books just got more epic as they went along (and sadder...) I avoided spoilers like the plague, but usually couldn't resist skipping through the chapter titles and illustrations quickly as soon as I got each book, just to give me SOME inkling of what to prepare for. My favorite character survived nearly until the end of the last book, at least. If I'd known what was going to happen, if might have taken me a while to get up the courage to read it, too.

SPOILERS AHEAD (just in case anyone's not seen or read Deathly Hallows) In our house it was me who started it, and my sister who got into it afterwards. (Usually it's the other way around with things, she introduced me to Doctor Who, Torchwood and MLP:FiM). I was very lucky when I was eight, my teacher was OBSESSED with Harry Potter and our classroom was filled with absolutley everything HP, including posters, plushies of just about every character, and newspaper cuttings hung up right across the classroom. Our teacher took us all to see Philosopher's Stone at the movies after she'd read us the book through the year and gave us a booklet of Harry Potter worksheets to do (I think I've still got it somewhere!) After the unfortunate incident with Order of the Phoenix, I stayed well clear of spoilers, which was easy because I always managed to finish the books within a day as I could not tear myself away from them! Later on, Tonks became my favourite character, I thought she'd be a nice safe one that I wouldn't have to worry about anything happening to... Snape had been growing on me for a long time, I'd hated him when I was little but since then he'd been making his way up my favourites list, to the point where I started to go off Sirius (what a meanie!). That scene in DH P2 gets to me so much, has to be the saddest bit of any of the films. I still can't believe Fred died, I think that shocked me more than any of them, he was my favourite twin. I was very considerate (mostly) of friends who couldn't read as quickly as me and avoided giving anything away. Unfortunatley for Arya's mum, I wasn't always successful. She sent me a text which read 'R.I.P. Fred' and I wrongly assumed that she'd finished the book. I replied with 'R.I.P. Remus and Tonks'. She hadn't read that bit. She wasn't very impressed.

Nice of you and your sis to do each other such favors. My brothers and I don’t have too much in common, so that only happens occasionally with us. Video games and such, mainly. WOW, that was one awesome teacher!! +D I started buying HP merch, too, of course…can never avoid that, lol. Probably my soundtrack, poster book, and, naturally, Snape t-shirt are the most treasured items. I always ate the books up in a day, too. Aw, I like Tonks. She was fun (and with mad cool hair!) It was pretty shocking that both she and Lupin were lost. Turned out that nobody was safe; you had to worry about everyone! =/ Snape is quite a character, and went from being outwardly dislikable to one of the most celebrated HP people by the end. I had suspected all along that there was more to him, and found him fascinatingly appealing (wanting to know more about him was, after all, my first and strongest motivation for reading the books)…so I’m one of those that always had a sense of distaste towards the Marauders, especially James, for their disgusting bullying and continual nastiness towards Sev…despite their later goodness and positive qualities. Well, except for “Wormtail.” =p I guess I’ve always been a sucker for the dark, snarky, tragic anti-hero with a secret soft spot. Any teacher or professor of mine who reminded me of him in any way was an automatic favorite. And when they gave out the “Snape is a very bad man” and “I trust Snape” stickers for book 7, I slapped ‘em both on my bumper—I just crossed out “bad” and wrote “hot.” When J.K. answered a fan’s question about Snape falling in love, there was so much wild speculation about whom it could be. Of course, by the time the seventh book rolled around, enough people had figured it out that, unfortunately, that bit wasn’t much of a surprise anymore. His death scene and the flashbacks have to be the most emotional, painful ones, in my view. But Fred’s death was a rough blow as well; it didn’t seem possible that the twins could be split up. :*{ I think I managed to get through the last three books without hitting anyone with undesired spoilers—ahhh, what happened with the text message was so unfortunate!!

You're a terror for spoilers, Rita. You need to take a lesson from Riversong. I saw this and thought it was appropriate: favim.com/image/275142/

Awesome day today, we went to a fantastic big pop culture convention (first time it's been held in Adelaide), and I had the immense pleasure of meeting the incredible Tom Felton!!!! Obviously we went to his guest panel, which was absolutely packed out and many people didn't get in- so chuffed that we got in early enough for seats! Also went to panels with Gareth David-Lloyd (Torchwood) and Tom Hopper (Merlin/Doctor Who). On another Harry Pottery note, I did catch glimpses of Chris Rankin (Percy) and Alfie Enoch (Dean), but I'd missed their panels and didn't have the pennies to get photos with them. Never mind, having a photo with Tom Felton (!) is soooo exciting in itself! Tom Felton also randomly walked past us while we were watching a My Little Pony screening, lol! I'm on a bit of a fan-girly high right now, haha!

Ahhh!! *fans self* That is outta this world, I can hardly believe you met him and got a photo and attended the panel and had him walk by the MLP screening...!!! (How epic would it be if he revealed himself as a brony...C<) Ohhh, that all sounds so extremely exciting. I'm still kicking myself over not having gotten an autograph voucher at BroNYcon in time. I would have gotten John de Lancie for sure, and hopefully Tara Strong as well and perhaps some of the other voice actors. But there's always next time. And I'm gonna get myself to a Star Trek convention next year, meet my favorites, and snap photos with 'em even if it kills me, lol.
P.S. Ullie & Rusty silhouettes in the new banner along with an Affie, yeeeeee!!! +D

Was SO exciting, I'm so looking forward to next year's, and wondering who next year's guests will be... could be anyone. It was quite lucky that the photo and autograph vouchers were not by any means in short supply, and even the mighty lines leading to Tom Felton's booth moved quite quickly really so lots of people got a chance to say 'hi'. I thought it was so lovely that the guests were still friendly and cheerful after a few days of relentless meetings with eager fans. BroNY con must be awesome- and have fun Trekkieing (is that even a word, if it is, it's surely spelt incorrectly), I do hope you manage to get lots of pictures taken, and manage not to get TOO overexcited (not always the easiest thing to do, lol!). I thought Ulla and Rusty were banner worthy (Jack too, but I was running out of space. I hope he doesn't mind, if it makes him feel better, Bella didn't fit either.).

An—anyone? O-o Hoo boy, that is some event!! And incredibly well-run, sounds like. I mean, not that BroNYcon wasn’t; for the largest part it was, but they did stop selling the vouchers after 3pm or something like that…and I tried to buy one around maybe 3:30. D: And the insanely long lines for autographs looked as though you’d be standing still for hours or inching forward very slowly. I was more than willing to be crazy and jump on the end of one, but alas, I hadn’t known there was such a limit. I really do have to give the stars major kudos for maintaining their pep and enthusiasm for meeting each individual.
I simply cannot wait to Trek…Trekkie…whatever the proper verb would be! I shall have to see how well I’m able to handle all of the awesomeness. I can imagine loads of scenarios, but the way things actually play out is sometimes totally unpredictable and different from any of the visions. And I’d very, very gladly attend another Bronycon or other pony convention/event.
Aw, ‘tis all right; I don’t think Jack took it too personally. His elders have seniority, after all. Two sighthounds and a non-hound seems fair for “Sighthounds, Etc.” I just hope Bella doesn’t feel slighted. ;]

Bella is content, only because her face takes up the main portion of the banner!
