Who's watching? I missed the opening ceremony sadly, it looks like it was really cool as well. I usually watch mostly swimming, gymnastics and athletics because that's what other members of the household are interested in, but I'd like to watch some of the equestrian this year, especially the show jumping and cross country because that is of more interest to me personally. I just love admiring those gorgeous horses!

Yep, I've had it on TV most of the time since last night. The opening ceremony was very pretty with the traditional flames, fireworks, and of course, Paul McCartney's awesome sing-along rendition of "Hey Jude!" I've been enjoying the swimming, gymnastics, weightlifting, volleyball, and the Wonderbolts. ;D Some truly awe-inspiring feats, indeed. But oh, my, yes, when will the equestrian events be up?! Must check...I too look forward to watching the horses, of course! Everything becomes even more interesting when animals get involved...

I've caught a bit of the dressage, I've no idea what the judges are looking for, but my there are some beautiful horses! ;D I managed to see the opening ceremony, Mum managed to record it. I loved the literary section with the giant Voldemort, and Cruella deVil and Mary Poppins- and J.K. Rowling reading from 'Peter Pan'. So many things I love! Being a Beatles fan I loved how they finished off with the great Paul McCartney getting everyone singing 'Hey Jude' with him. Another highlight was Rowan Atkinson as Mr Bean, that man is such a genius, I am beyond jealous of my friend who got to see him in the London production of 'Oliver!' (he was playing Fagin). I am a big fan, he's definitely one of the great British comedians.

Hehe! ;D I must have missed most of today's equestrian, unfortunately...heard a mention last night that they were going to be airing some of it, but all I really saw was an interview of the 53-year-old with the horse co-owned by Mitt Romney's wife. Otherwise it's been mostly more swimming and gymnastics--which have been quite exciting and full of surprises, both good and not-so-good.
Oh, I'm glad you were able to see the ceremony. ^^ Yes, I LOVED the "children's literature" tribute there--indeed, so many wonderful stories referenced! And oh, how I love Paul & the Beatles! I was singing (and dancing!) along at home.
Oh gosh, Rowan and Mr. Bean are the BOMB. I am now jealous of your friend as well. *huggles my new Zazu birthday plush* ;D

Lucky you, I am rather envious on both counts! I'm rather chuffed that Great Britain's doing so well. ;D ;D Some very impressive results, especially in the athletics. I do think dog agility needs to become an Olympic sport...

I second the motion!! It'd be spectacular as an Olympic sport, and earn it greater recognition and respect. It should definitely be eligible for that status. ETA: The AKC has a related poll on their homepage, asking which dog sport(s) should be included in the Olympics. The choices are Agility (35% of votes), flyball, rally, and field trials/hunt tests. I voted for all of them, but Flyball would be a good second choice. That's very exciting and energizing to watch. It's canine athletics rather than human, but still, it all requires training and work on the parts of the people. 33% of voters said that "dog sports don't belong in the Olympics," which seems like a party-pooper response, lol. But they must have their reasons for thinking so... Yeah, Great Britain's doing--great! The Americans have experienced some serious ups and downs so far and done better in certain events than others, but on the whole, they're also doing very well.

I think if equestrian events are worthy of being in the Olympics, then agility (which requires a lot of physical effort as well as communication with the dog from the human part of the team) should be too.
I LOVED the closing ceremony, highlight being THE SPICE GIRLS (!!!!), and I was also chuffed to see Queen (Brian and Roger are amazing ;D ) and Eric Idle! ;D ;D ;D

Absolutely...the level of training, skill, physical conditioning, and communication between dog and handler should make Agility Olympic material. No wonder it got the majority of votes on the AKC poll.
Omg, the closing ceremony warrants the word "epic," methinks! The Spice reunion with those big trucks and those great outfits and electric performances--they've still got it!!! 8'D I do wish Geri's hair were red again, but she looked amazing anyway! All of them did! And there sure were some other fantastic Brits gracing the stage!! =D
